York Society of Magicians presents the Steve Short “Johnny Hart” lecture at The Red Lion Hotel, Boroughbridge Road, Upper Poppleton, York. YO26 6PR on Wednesday 10th October 2018. Meeting opens at 7.00pm. Lecture starts at 8.00pm. Members of other magic societies welcome - entrance fee £10 pay at the door. From the moment Johnny Hart won the very first Magic Circle Young Magician of the Year Competition in 1961 his career took off on a rapid upward path which never slowed down. It was not long before Johnny Hart was in demand to appear on stage in variety shows and summer seasons, supporting some of the biggest names in show business. In between British engagements, Johnny carved a name for himself all over the world, including Las Vegas, where, for a one-year season he entertained at the Dunes, followed later by another extended period at the MGM Grand in Reno, Nevada. Johnny also became a regular television celebrity, appearing on Sunday Night at the London Palladium and in America he was televised many times on The Ed Sullivan Show. Steve’s lecture will reveal how a modest college student from Preston, via a path of dogged determination, energy and unbounded talent, became one of the greatest British-born international magicians there has ever been. www.johnnyhartbook.com

What a fantastic talk we had tonight from Ian Barradell on Tenyo magic. It was great to see a good turn out including some of the Junior section. Ian had so much to show and tell keeping everyone interested and entertained throughout the evening. Sometimes i think Tenyo magic is very underestimated when you really see the mechanics and the quality of the products. It was also very interesting to hear about the rare products and what they are now worth as collectors items. Im sure there will be some Tenyo products purchased over the next few days by those that attended. We have already provisionally booked Ian for next year to see more of his collection.
